Pakistan – Two Pastors Ambushed and Attacked

On 30th January, two pastors were leaving All Saints’ Church in Peshawar, Pakistan, together after the worship service when their car was ambushed by gunmen riding a motorcycle. Pastor William was fatally shot whilst Pastor Patrick had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The late Pastor William was a senior lay leader who led worship at 3 different Church of Pakistan parishes. Pastor Patrick, who miraculously survived the attack, serves as priest of All Saints’ Church. In September 2013, this same church was the site of a suicide bombing attack that left more than 80 Christians dead.

Pastor William’s daughter who lost her husband in the 2013 attack on the church said, “I praise God and am so proud that I am the daughter of a martyr and the wife of a martyr too.”

Pray for Pastor William’s family and his congregants as they mourn their loss. May the Lord comfort them with His reassuring presence.

Pray that this incident will not be a setback to the church’s ministry in this area but instead the gospel message will continue to spread and the number of disciples will multiply greatly in Pakistan (Acts 6:7).

India – Christians Injured in Mob Attack

Since early January 2022, there have been at least 10 reported incidents of Christian persecution in 5 different locations across the State of Chhattisgarh and more than 200 incidents during the past 2 years.

On 9th January 2022, members of a house church in Odagoan were attacked by a mob. According to Pastor Hemanth, the violence started when a thug entered the worship service and beat up those who were present. This thug then dragged Pastor Hemanth out of the building where a mob of about 200 had gathered. The abuse continued as the mob joined in the attack against the pastor and another believer, causing them serious internal injuries that required medical treatment.

The mob also threatened to kill the Christians if they continued to hold prayer services in the community.  And the next day, Christians in the village were forced to renounce their faith. Following this incident, 5 Christian families have fled the village.

Pray that the people injured in the attack will experience both physical and emotional healing. Pray for wisdom and guidance for Pastor Hemanth and the church as they seek to continue the work of the Lord in this area.

Pray for those families who have been forced to flee their homes – that God will provide for their needs, watch over them and protect them. Pray that God will sustain and strength every one of these persecuted brethren and fill them with a renewed sense of courage and hope. May they overcome their challenges and may their personal testimonies of God’s goodness and providence inspire many others, including those who have been persecuting them, to seek God and receive salvation.

Pakistan – Christian Girls Are Being Abducted

In the first two weeks of 2022, at least four Christian girls have been kidnapped, forcibly married to their kidnappers and held in captivity.

In one recent case of abduction, a 16-year old Christian girl was repeatedly harassed by 30-year old Arif who kidnapped her on 7th January 2022 with the help of two other men. She was subsequently raped repeatedly by the men before being released. Due to the physical and psychological trauma she endured, the teen has been unable to speak about the situation.

In another case, 14-year old Mahnoor and her young nephew were going to a local store on 4th January 2022 when she was kidnapped. The Christian teen was abducted by her 45-year old neighbour, who was married with two children, and his three accomplices. Whilst in captivity, she was forced to renounce her Christian faith and marry her kidnapper.

Pray for healing for the 16-year old teen and 14-year old Mahnoor. Pray that God will provide them with greatly needed peace and strength during this difficult time, especially for Mahnoor and many other Pakistani girls who are still being held captive by their abusers.

Pray that the perpetrators will be held legally accountable and the girls returned to their families.

Nepal – Continue to pray for Pastor who has been released on bail pending appeal

Pastor Keshav was initially arrested, and later released, because of a video, which was released without his knowledge, in which he claimed that the COVID-19 virus could be healed through prayer. He was re-arrested in November 2021 and convicted for proselytization, and sentenced to 2 years in prison.

His lawyers argued that the proper legal process was not followed. So, on 19th December 2021, Pastor Keshav was granted bail pending the appeal against his conviction and imprisonment. As a result, he was able to go home on Christmas Eve. Click here to read more about this case: https://gosheninternational.org/nepal-pray-for-pastor-keshav/.

Thank you for praying for Pastor Keshav. We praise God that he has been released on bail in the interim and was able to be with his family during Christmas. Continue to pray that his appeal will be successful. Pray that all charges against him will be dropped and his conviction will be overturned.

Pray that Pastor Keshav will remain in God’s perfect peace during this difficult time of waiting.

India – Pray for a pastor and his wife who were jailed on false charges of forced conversion

On 3 October 2021, a group of people barged into Pastor Arjun’s church building. They threatened him and chased members of his congregation away. The police were called in to intervene. However, during the fracas, the pastor and his wife were physically beaten. They were subsequently detained and charged on the allegation of forcefully converting others to Christianity.

Pray that justice will prevail in this case and that all charges against Pastor Arjun and his wife will be dropped. Pray that their faith and their testimony will inspire others to seek God and come to salvation.
