Laos – Sister Flees to find Refuge and Hope

18-year-old Rung and her brother left their village to find work. They were employed by a Christian family whose lifestyle and testimony won Rung and her brother to faith in the Lord.

After the siblings returned to their village, their mother became ill. Family members believed it was because of the siblings’ Christian faith. One day, while Rungs’ brother was away from home, the family sacrificed a chicken and encouraged Rung to renounce her faith and participate in the ritual.

When she refused, the police was called. After interviewing her, the police told her to go to the police station the next day. Afraid that she would be held in custody, Rung left her village to seek refuge with a front-line worker in the region’s capital.

Rung left home with only the clothes she wore, her handphone and $12. She is now receiving aid for food, clothes and sewing supplies so that she can learn a trade.

Pray that both Rung and her brother will continue to grow in their faith despite the many challenges they are facing. Pray that Rung will be able to pick up sewing skills fast and with ease so that she can support herself. Pray that Rung’s family will come to faith in Christ.

Laos – Pastor Sy was Tortured and Killed

Pastor Sy, an evangelical pastor, was kidnapped by 3 men driving a black truck. The abduction was witnessed by a bystander who thought the men were capturing a criminal.

A few days later, on 23rd October, Pastor Sy’s badly beaten body was discovered near his motorbike in a forested area outside Donkeo village in Khammouane province.

Local residents believe Pastor Sy was murdered because of his religious beliefs and evangelistic work. According to church leaders, Pastor Sy’s activities were being monitored and he received warnings from local authorities, relatives and neighbours that he could face harm if he continued to share his faith.

Pray for the family and friends of the late Pastor Sy. Pray that God will comfort and strengthen them as they grief and mourn the loss of a loved one. Pray that those who have been blessed and ministered to by the late Pastor Sy’s will carry on the evangelistic work he started. And many people in Laos will hear the Gospel message, believe in the Lord and receive salvation.

Nepal – Pray for Gita

Gita, a Christian since the age of 11, is married to a non-Christian who is 20 years her senior. She is an active member of a local church even though her husband does not approve of her Christian belief. On two occasions, he destroyed the Bibles Gita received from the church and he beat her many times for attending church.

Earlier this year, he was so angry with Gita that he poured boiling hot lentil curry on her, burning her leg badly enough such that she had to be hospitalized for treatment. The church paid for her medical expenses because her husband refused to pay.

On 8th August this year, Gita’s husband beat her up badly, broke her phone and destroyed her hymnbook when he could not find her Bible for the purpose of destroying it. Gita had to use her neighbour’s phone to inform the pastor of her situation. After this phone call, Gita has been out of communication.

Pray for Gita and her two young daughters, aged 7 and 5 years old. Pray that God will watch over them and protect them from harm. Pray that God will soften the heart of Gita’s husband. Pray that he will have a divine encounter with the Lord and he will repent and receive salvation in Christ.

Kazakhstan – Banking Access Blocked for Church

In April 2017, the New Life Pentecostal Church located in Talgar of the Southern Almaty Region, received a donation from abroad to help with the purchase of a church building. The bank considered the transaction “suspicious” and referred it to the Finance Ministry, resulting in the church’s account being frozen.

It took more than 3 years, along with court action, before access to the bank account was regained. However, the Church continue to encounter repeated problems trying to gain access to banking services, without which the church had difficulties paying the necessary taxes, payroll and other financial dealings.

Pray for wisdom, guidance and direction for the Church leaders of New Life Pentecostal Church as they try to resolve their banking issues. Pray that God will remove all hindrances and obstacles so that the church can continue to minister and share the Good News of the Gospel to the community.

Pray that believers will remain strong and not lose hope whenever they face any challenges.
