On 2nd January, a mob of villagers entered a Catholic church in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh armed with wooden sticks and iron rods. The mob was spurred on by allegations that members of the church were performing religious conversions.
Significant damage was done to the church and presbytery. Several police officers, including the district superintendent, were injured when they attempted to intervene.
Pray for God’s strength, wisdom and courage to be imparted in the lives of Christians residing in this district, as well as those in other areas of India who regularly face violence and discrimination because of their faith in Christ.
Pray that the Lord will mediate on behalf of these church leaders and give them wisdom and guidance concerning their ministries. Pray for greater religious freedom and tolerance for individuals to practice their faith in a peaceful manner.
