Pakistan – 13-year old is the latest victim of forced conversion and marriage

On October 13th, 13-year old Christian girl, Arzoo Masih, was abducted while she was playing outside her home in Karachi, Pakistan. Both her parents were at work at the time. Two days later, Arzoo’s parents were presented with marriage and conversion documents stating that Arzoo was 18 years old and she consented to the marriage. Such forced conversions can be seen as a form of persecution of Christians and minorities in Pakistan.

Please pray for young Arzoo’s mental and emotional state whilst she remains held against her will. Pray that she will draw strength and courage from the Lord to face daily challenges and she will be comforted by the knowledge that God is with her and will never leave or forsake her.  Pray that the Lord will intervene in her case and cause justice to prevail.

Acquitted After More Than Six Years in Prison

Sawan Masih was arrested in 2013 after a neighbour accused him of calling someone a false prophet during a conversation.

Although Sawan denied the accusation, he was imprisoned for more than 6 years and sentenced to death. However, on October 5th, he was finally acquitted by the High Court.

We thank and praise God for this good news.

Pray that Sawan will be released soon and reunited with his wife, Sobia, and their 3 children. Pray for divine protection over Sawan and his family against any negative repercussions even after Sawan’s release.

Pray for other Christians who are facing similar accusations or challenges because of their faith in Christ. Pray that justice will prevail in such situations and those who are false accused will be exonerated.

Missing – Yunan Pastor and his parents

Wang Hai, a pastor from the Miao ethnic minority (also known as Hmong) in Yunan province, and both his parents has been reported missing by his wife.  Pastor Wang was in charge of several church groups and supports himself through farming. His father was the one who led him to Christ.

Pastor Wang was taken in for questioning more than 2 months ago and has not been seen since. His wife is now struggling to make ends meet whilst taking care of their 2 sons and an elderly person all by herself.

Pray for Pastor Wang and his parents’ safety. Pray that they will be released soon and reunited with their family.

Pray that God will strengthen Pastor Wang’s wife and provide for the family’s needs. Pray that they will put their trust in God at all times knowing that He will not forsake those who seek Him (Psalm 9:10).

Appeal Fails to Halt Seizures

On September 17th, a court in the city of Almaty upheld an earlier decision to seize two buildings owned by the New Life Protestant Church. The facilities were being used for worship, as well as a means of support for those suffering from drug and alcohol dependency. Three of the church’s pastors were detained in November last year and sentenced to terms of up to five years for allegedly “causing psychological harm” and having involvement in illegal associations. The church’s properties were also confiscated.

In a separate incident, Grace Church in Nur-Sultan is also challenging the legalities relating to the confiscation of their property which was seized to make room for a kindergarten.

Pray that the courts will recognize the positive impact these churches have had on their communities and thus rule equitably in their favour.

Pray that the Lord will grant wisdom to the leaders of both churches as they work their way through the legal mazes before them. May the Lord be their “refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble,” also ministering in this manner to their families and congregation members (Psalm 46:1). As they await God’s vindication, may they seize every opportunity they are given to share their faith with others.

Pray for Huma

Christian teen, Huma Younus, was abducted in October 2019 and forced to marry her kidnapper, Abdul Jabbar. Huma was only 14-years old then.

Since the abduction, Huma’s parents have not been allowed to meet her. A warrant has finally been issued for the arrest of Abdul Jabbar but his whereabouts remain unknown.

Pray that God will sustain Huma while she remains in the home of her kidnapper. Pray that she will continually look to the Lord for peace, comfort and strength.

Pray that justice will prevail in this situation and that Huma will be reunited with her family soon. Pray also for the many other Christian girls in Pakistan who are facing the same challenges as Huma.
